Artist Take On New Exhibition After 8 Year Hiatus!

People hear "eight-year hiatus" and assume you haven't done anything since then.

“Genius is eternal patience.” – Michelangelo

So what's the hold-up, you wonder?

It's been the complete opposite. I've been so busy I forgot how much time has passed since my first exhibition. I'm sitting on several projects, three to be exact. One, in particular, I have enough paintings to put out now. However, the series hasn't met my standards yet. I've been working on this series sporadically over the course of eight years, and ideally, it was supposed to be my second exhibition, but I held on to it. I wanted to focus on building my platform and bulking up my resume as a visual artist.

Being a multifaceted creative, you are pulled in many directions. I'm not only a visual artist but also a graphic designer, illustrator, author, marketing specialist, and business consultant. I also spend a great amount of time working in the community with individuals with disabilities and mental illnesses. Even with all the hats I wear, I still find time for art. In fact, in 2019, I participated in twenty-four different art festivals. That was the most I've ever done in a single year. Normally, I'd do four to eight, and the most I'd done before 2019 was twelve.

The Exhibition

I've been contemplating this idea for over a year. It didn't become clear to me until October of 2021. When I finally had that Ahaaa moment, I became obsessed with this series until its completion. This series is different from my other work. Being that my work is usually detailed, this series is more simplistic. That was my intention; I wanted the viewer to connect deeply with these paintings. The concept behind the series is complex, so I didn't want the art to compete with the idea. The series is about balance in relationships, so it was important for me to make sure the concept and the execution were balanced.
